This is a list of the master limited partnerships QuantumOnline tracks. An MLP is a publicly traded partnership rather than a corporation: it pays no entity-level income tax and passes its income, deductions and credits straight through to unit holders.
That pass-through treatment is why MLP yields have historically been high. It is also why MLPs are the most tax-complicated securities on this site, and why they suit some accounts and are actively unsuitable for others.

As a partner rather than a shareholder, you receive a Schedule K-1 each year instead of a Form 1099-DIV. K-1s arrive later than 1099s — often in March, sometimes with amendments afterwards — and can force a return to be extended.
Holding MLPs in multiple states can also create state filing obligations where the partnership operates, regardless of where you live. For an investor with a handful of MLPs this is a genuine annual cost in time or accountant fees.
MLP distributions are typically not taxed as income when received. Instead they reduce your cost basis, deferring tax until you sell. This can defer a large share of the tax for years.
The deferral is not forgiveness. When you sell, the basis reduction is recaptured — a substantial portion often taxed as ordinary income rather than at capital gains rates. An MLP held for many years can produce a surprisingly large tax bill on sale.
MLPs generate unrelated business taxable income (UBTI). A tax-exempt account such as an IRA that receives more than $1,000 of UBTI in a year must file Form 990-T and pay tax — inside the IRA, at trust rates.
This inverts the usual advice. The tax deferral an MLP already provides is wasted in an IRA, and the UBTI problem is created for nothing. MLPs generally belong in a taxable account.
Most MLPs are midstream energy: pipelines, storage, processing and terminals. These businesses typically earn fee-based income on volumes rather than on the price of the commodity, which makes their cash flows steadier than the energy sector's reputation suggests — though volume declines and counterparty credit still bite.
Check the distribution coverage ratio, which compares distributable cash flow to the distribution paid. Coverage below 1.0 sustained over several quarters means the partnership is funding its distribution from borrowing or unit issuance.
QuantumOnline has tracked exchange-traded income securities since 1997. Every security in this list is researched and maintained by hand from the issuer's prospectus and SEC filings, not scraped from a vendor feed. Where a figure is unavailable we show "n.a." rather than guessing.
Information is believed to be accurate but is not guaranteed, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell. Always confirm terms against the issuer's prospectus before investing.
