List of Exchange-Traded Income Securities

This is the master index of every exchange-traded income security QuantumOnline tracks: traditional preferred stocks, trust preferreds, third-party trust preferreds, exchange-traded debt ("baby bonds"), and both traditional and mandatory convertibles. If a security pays a regular distribution and trades on an exchange in small denominations, it belongs here.

Income securities occupy the ground between bonds and common stock. They pay a stated distribution like a bond, but they trade share-by-share on an exchange like a stock, which means an individual investor can buy ten shares through an ordinary brokerage account instead of facing the $100,000-plus minimums common in the institutional bond market.

What counts as an exchange-traded income security

Four broad families make up this list. Preferred stocks sit above common equity but below debt in the capital structure and usually pay a fixed quarterly dividend with no maturity date. Trust preferreds are issued through a financing trust, pay interest rather than dividends, and carry a stated maturity, often 30 to 49 years out. Exchange-traded debt securities are ordinary corporate notes and debentures cut into $25 pieces so they can trade on an exchange. Convertibles add the right to exchange the security for the issuer's common stock.

The practical differences matter more than the labels. They determine how the distribution is taxed, where you stand if the issuer runs into trouble, and whether you will ever get your principal back on a fixed date.

Why the $25 denomination is everywhere

Almost every security here was issued at $25 per share. That convention exists specifically to put these securities within reach of individual investors, and it makes comparison unusually easy: a security trading at $22 is at a discount to its $25 liquidation preference, one at $27 is at a premium, and the current yield follows directly from the coupon and the price.

A handful of issues use $10, $50, $100 or $1,000 denominations instead. Those are flagged individually on each security's detail page, and they are worth checking before you calculate a yield, because assuming $25 on a $1,000-par security will be off by a factor of forty.

If you are looking for a narrower universe, the specialised lists break this master index into traditional preferreds, trust preferreds, baby bonds, convertibles and tax-advantaged issues.

About this data

QuantumOnline has tracked exchange-traded income securities since 1997. Every security in this list is researched and maintained by hand from the issuer's prospectus and SEC filings, not scraped from a vendor feed. Where a figure is unavailable we show "n.a." rather than guessing.

Information is believed to be accurate but is not guaranteed, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell. Always confirm terms against the issuer's prospectus before investing.
