Fund Description: iShares Core International Aggregate Bond ETF is an exchange-traded index fund or Index ETF which is a separate investment portfolio of the iShares Trust, an open-end investment management company. INVESTMENT OBJECTIVE: The iShares Core International Aggregate Bond ETF seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the Barclays Global Aggregate ex USD 10% Issuer Capped (Hedged) Index. INDEX DESCRIPTION: The Barclays Global Aggregate ex USD 10% Issuer Capped (Hedged) Index measures the performance of the global investment-grade bond market. The Index includes investment-grade fixed-rate sovereign and government-related debt, corporate and securitized bonds from both developed and emerging market issuers. Securities included in the Index are issued in currencies other than the U.S. dollar, must have maturities of at least one year and are required to meet minimum outstanding issue size criteria. The Index is market capitalization-weighted with a cap on each issuer of 10%. Debt that is publicly issued in the global and regional markets is included in the Index. Certain types of securities, such as USD-denominated bonds, contingent capital securities, inflation-linked bonds, floating-rate issues, fixed-rate perpetuals, retail bonds, structured notes, pass-through certificates, private placements, sinkable Russian OFZ bonds issued prior to 2009 and securities where reliable pricing is unavailable are excluded from the Index. The securities in the Index are updated on the last business day of each month, and the currency risk of the securities in the Index are hedged to the U.S. dollar on a monthly basis. Components of the Index primarily include fixed-rate foreign sovereign and government debt, non-U.S. government-related bonds and corporate bonds. The components may also include fixed-income securities and foreign currency forward contracts (both deliverable and non-deliverable) designed to hedge against non-U.S. currency fluctuations. The notional exposure to foreign currency forward contracts generally will be a short position that hedges the currency risk of the fixed-income portfolio. The components of the Index, and the degree to which these components represent certain industries, are likely to change over time. The Index sells forward the total value of the non-U.S. dollar currencies at a one-month forward rate to hedge against fluctuations in the relative value of the component currencies in relation to the U.S. dollar. The hedge is reset on a monthly basis. FUND STRATEGY: A passive or indexing approach to try to achieve the Fund’s investment objective. Unlike many investment companies, the Fund does not try to beat the index it tracks and does not seek temporary defensive positions when markets decline or appear overvalued. Representative sampling is an indexing strategy that is used which involves investing in a representative sample of securities or other instruments comprising the Index. The securities selected are expected to have, in the aggregate, investment characteristics (based on factors such as market capitalization and industry weightings), fundamental characteristics (such as return variability, duration, maturity, credit ratings and yield) and liquidity measures similar to those of the Index. The Fund may or may not hold all of the securities and other components of the Index. The Fund generally will invest at least 90% of its assets in the component securities and other instruments of the Index and may invest up to 10% of its assets in certain futures, options and swap contracts, cash and cash equivalents, including shares of money market funds as well as in securities not included in the Index. The Fund, under certain circumstances, may invest at least 80% of its assets in the component securities and other instruments of the Index and may invest up to 20% of its assets in certain futures, options and swap contracts, cash and cash equivalents, including shares of BlackRock Cash Funds. In order to replicate the hedging component of the Index, the Fund intends to enter into foreign currency forward contracts designed to offset the Fund’s exposure to the component currencies. FUND MANAGEMENT: The Fund's investment adviser is BlackRock Fund Advisors (BFA). The Fund’s sub-adviser is BlackRock International Ltd. (BIL).
