iShares Barclays Agency Bond Fund
Fund Description: iShares Agency Bond ETF, formerly iShares Barclays Agency Bond Fund is an exchange-traded index fund or Index ETF which is a separate investment portfolio of the iShares Trust, an open-end investment management company. INVESTMENT OBJECTIVE: The iShares Agency Bond ETF seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the agency sector of the U.S. government bond market as defined by the Barclays Capital U.S. Agency Index. INDEX DESCRIPTION: The Barclays Capital U.S. Agency Index is comprised of investment-grade native currency agency debentures issued by government and government-related agencies, including Fannie Mae. Debentures issued in their native currency are debentures issued in the local currency of their country of issuance, or in the local currency of a country whose government guarantees the debt. The Index includes both callable and non-callable agency securities that are publicly issued by U.S. government agencies and quasi-federal corporations and corporate or foreign debt guaranteed by the U.S. government. The Index measures the performance of both callable and non-callable U.S. dollar-denominated government agency debentures, including securities of the following categories: 1.) Governhment Guaranteed Securities: issuances that carry direct guarantees from central governments (including, but not limited to, the U.S. federal government); 2.) Government Owned, Not Guaranteed Securities: issuances of entities that are more than 50% owned by central or local governments (including, but not limited to, the U.S. federal government and U.S. state governments); and 3.) Government Sponsored Securities: issuances of entities that carry out government policies and benefit from implied involvement of central governments, such as by benefiting from certain government subsidies, credit provisions, or other government support. FUND STRATEGY: The Fund seeks to achieve its objective by investing primarily in both fixed-income securities that comprise its Index and through transactions that provide substantially similar exposure to securities in the Index. The Fund engages in representative sampling, which is investing in a sample of securities that have a collective investment profile similar to that of the Index. Securities selected have aggregate investment characteristics (based on market capitalization and industry weightings), fundamental characteristics (such as yield, credit rating, maturity and duration) and liquidity measures similar to those of the Index. Funds that use representative sampling generally do not hold all of the securities that are in the Index. The Fund generally seeks to track the performance of its Index by investing approximately 90% of its assets in the bonds represented in its Index and in securities that provide substantially similar exposure to securities in the Index. The Fund may invest the remainder of its assets in bonds not included in its Index, but which is believed will help the Fund track its Index, as well as in cash and high-quality, liquid short-term instruments, including shares of money market funds. The Fund invests a substantial portion of its assets in U.S. dollar-denominated bonds, an interest-bearing security issued by a company, governmental unit or a non-U.S. entity. FUND MANAGEMENT: BlackRock Fund Advisors (BFA) serves as the investment adviser to the Fund.
