Company's Online Profile
FUND DESCRIPTION:  SPDR MSCI EM 50 ETF is an exchange-traded index fund or Index ETF which is a separate investment portfolio of the SPDR Index Shares Fund, an investment management company. INVESTMENT OBJECTIVE: The SPDR MSCI EM 50 ETF seeks to replicate as closely as possible, before fees and expenses, the total return performance of the MSCI EM 50 Index. INDEX DESCRIPTION: The MSCI EM 50 Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization weighted index comprised of 50 of the largest constituents held in the broader MSCI Emerging Markets Index (the Parent Index). The selection universe of the Index is based on the constituent securities of the Parent Index except for Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia. For these four markets the selection universe is limited to depositary receipts. To be included in the Index, securities must meet specific eligibility screens. In particular, securities must have 3-month and 12-month Annualized Traded Value Ratios of at least 15% and a 3-month frequency of trading of at least 80% (ATVR is a measure of a security’s trading volume divided by its float-adjusted market capitalization). In order to minimize the number of countries and currencies in the Index, only countries with more than three percent weight in the Parent Index are included. Among the remaining countries, only countries with two or more securities ranking in the top 50 companies by free-float adjusted market capitalization are included. After applying the eligibility screens, the remaining securities are ranked by free-float adjusted market capitalization in descending order and the largest 50 securities are identified to construct the Index. Real estate investment trusts and China B shares are not eligible for the Index. The composition of the Index is fully reviewed on a quarterly basis and changes are implemented at the end of February, May, August and November. Countries covered in the Index have historically included, among others: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey. As of December 31, 2011, the Index was comprised of 50 securities. FUND STRATEGY: In seeking to track the performance of the Index, the Fund employs a sampling strategy, which means that the Fund is not required to purchase all of the securities represented in the Index. Instead, the Fund may purchase a subset of the securities in the Index in an effort to hold a portfolio of securities with generally the same risk and return characteristics of the Index. The quantity of holdings in the Fund will be based on a number of factors, including asset size of the Fund. Under normal market conditions, the Fund generally invests substantially all, but at least 80%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the Index or in American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) or Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs) based on securities comprising the Index. The Fund may invest in equity securities that are not included in the Index (including common stock, preferred stock, depositary receipts and shares of other investment companies), cash and cash equivalents or money market instruments, such as repurchase agreements and money market funds. The Fund may also enter into futures contracts and forward currency exchange contracts for hedging purposes. FUND MANAGEMENT: SSgA FM serves as the investment adviser to the Fund.

Notes:  Effective at the close of markets on Aug. 24, a dozen of the smallest ETFs in the State Street Global Advisors lineup will cease to trade. Announcing the closures, SSgA said that the decisions were made based on an ongoing review of the SPDR ETF offering and limited market demand.
