Company's Online Profile
FUND DESCRIPTION: Eaton Vance National Municipal Opportunities Trust is an exchange-traded closed-end trust or a closed-end ETF which is officially described as a diversified, closed-end management investment company. INVESTMENT OBJECTIVE: The Eaton Vance National Municipal Opportunities Trust seeks to provide current income exempt from federal income tax. The Trust will, as a secondary investment objective, seek to achieve capital appreciation. TRUST DESCRIPTION: The Trust offers investors the opportunity to receive current income exempt from federal income tax through a professionally managed portfolio of municipal obligations. Investments are based on the municipal securities research, trading and portfolio management of the Trust’s investment adviser, Eaton Vance Management, which generally are not available to individual investors. The Trust’s net asset value and distribution rate will vary and may be affected by several factors, including changes in interest rates and the credit quality of municipal issuers. An investment in the Trust may not be appropriate for all investors, particularly those that are not subject to federal income tax. TRUST STRATEGY: The Trust will seek to achieve its investment objectives by investing 70% in municipal obligations that, at the time of investment, are investment grade quality. The Trust also may invest 30% of its gross assets in municipal obligations rated below investment grade or unrated securities that the Adviser considers to be of comparable quality. Securities will be purchased and sold in an effort to maintain a competitive yield and to enhance return based upon the relative value of the securities available in the marketplace. Municipal obligations include bonds, notes and commercial paper issued for a wide variety of both public and private purposes, the interest on which is exempt from regular federal income tax. Public purpose municipal bonds include general obligation and revenue bonds. General obligation bonds are backed by the taxing power of the issuing municipality. Revenue bonds are backed by the revenues of a project or facility, or from the proceeds of a specific revenue source. Some revenue bonds are payable solely or partly from funds that are subject to annual appropriations by a state’s legislature. Municipal notes include bond anticipation, tax anticipation and revenue anticipation notes. Bond, tax and revenue anticipation notes are short-term obligations that will be retired with the proceeds of an anticipated bond issue, tax revenue or facility revenue, respectively. Municipal obligations are often issued by state and local governmental entities to finance or refinance public projects, such as roads, schools and water supply systems. Municipal obligations also may be issued on behalf of private entities or for private activities, such as housing, medical and educational facility construction, or for privately owned transportation, electric utility and pollution control projects. Municipal obligations may be issued on a long-term basis to provide long-term financing. TRUST MANAGEMENT: Eaton Vance Management will act as investment adviser for and manage the investment and reinvestment of the assets of the Trust and administer its affairs. As investment adviser, Eaton Vance will furnish continuously an investment program and will determine what securities and other investments will be acquired, disposed of or exchanged and what portion of the Trust’s assets will be held uninvested.
