4/15/07 We are having a problem with our domain name registration. - We have a fiasco occurring which involves our domain name registration and which involves a complete lack of communication between our website host, Network Solutions, and myself and the website was been removed from some domain name servers (DNS). The first notice we had of this problem was from an email received at 12:14am last night and which we did not see until this morning. Please rest assured that we are not shutting down the website. We are working on resolving the problem at this point but it is likely to be early this week before the problem will be completely cleared up and the QuantumOnline domain name is restored to all of the DNS servers around the Internet.

The QuantumOnline website has been and is currently operating but the problem you have rests in the way the Internet operates. When you type in QuantumOnline.com into your browser, your ISP goes to a DNS server that translates that name into the actual Internet address which is all numbers. The Internet server then goes to that numbered website address. QuantumOnline's actual Internet address is http://12.150.207.190/. On a temporary basis, you could use that numbered address if you have problems accessing the website until the DNS servers are updated over the next few days.

8/12/06 Items are being listed twice in our tables, lists and searches. - We have run into a very strange phenomenon. For some reason, currently unknown, the programming which generates our tables, lists and searches is printing each item twice. We are currently trying to locate the problem and have not found the source of these repeated entries at this point. The problem is especially strange in that we have not changed this programming recently and it has been working properly in the past. We are currently trying a few possible cures and we will eventually track down the source of the problem but it may take until at least Monday to get our regular programmer on the job to actually solve the problem.

7/8/06 Intermittent website outages continued until the problem was fixed? in the late afternoon. - BellSouth continued to work on the cable problem throughout the day causing a number of short outages for the website. Finally in late afternoon, they said that the problem was fixed and the website has been working properly since that time. Cross your fingers that the cable problems are fixed permanently and we can get back to simply worrying about which securities to buy.

7/7/06 We have run into two different problems over the last two days. - Yesterday morning we experienced a bad upload of a new database to the website that we did not notice for an hour or two. If you went to use the website yesterday and found empty tables and lists, that was the result of the bad upload of the database. Once we discovered the bad database, we switched to our backup and had the system working again in a few minutes. Today, our cut cable from 6/20/06 came back. The repair job on the telephone cable that was cut on 6/20/06 has been apparently intermittantly faulty. Today it just stopped working altogether and the website was offline for a number of hours. The cable has been repaired again and hopefully it has been repaired properly but no one is guaranteeing that it will not go out again. Both BellSouth and AT&T are still checking out their portions of the telephone system but neither seem to have positively located the problem. There still might be intermittent problems as the two companies continue to attempt to locate the actual fault causing the intermittent outages so please hang with us. Needless to say we are not pleased with these problems and will do our best to eliminate any future problems of this type but unfortunately we can not really claim that we will.

6/20/06 The telephone cable to our website host was cut by a construction project. - The telephone cable that supplies the telephone and Internet service to our website host in Plantation FL was cut by some unrelated construction project. The cut cable put the QuantumOnline website offline for about 8 hours between about 1:30PM EDT and 9:30PM EDT.

5/14/06 We have added a contributor reminder system to the website. - In response to numerous requests from QOL contributors for us to remind them to contribute again after a year, we have added a contributor reminder system to the website. Since QuantumOnline needs a continuous source of funds to continue to operate, this is also quite important to us and we were prefectly willing to respond to the contributor requests. We jumped right on it and managed to put the system together in only 3 years. The system works like this. When you make a contribution and we record it our your registration record, the word Contributor will appear after your name in the dark green top banner of any page and we will send you a thank you email to document your contribution. Eleven months from the date of your last contribution, the banner will change to show Last Contribution: and the date of your latest contribution. The top banner of new users and non-contributors will have the word Non-Contributor after their name. Due to the type of programming in use on the registration system, a new contribution will not actually be reflected in the top banner until the following day or the next time you access the QuantumOnline website.

11/1/05 Hurricane Wilma apparently struck again. - In an apparently delayed problem as the result of Hurricane Wilma, the AT&T lines connecting our website server to the Internet went down and with all the other problems to solve in South Florida it took AT&T a while to get the lines up and running again so we were offline again for a number of hours.

10/24/05 This time Hurricane Wilma was picking on us. - As we have said before, our website server is located in Plantation, Florida which was hit by Hurricane Wilma today. If users are tired of the QuantumOnline website being offline due to hurricanes, so are we. We'll hope that for the remainder of the year, we either have no more hurricanes or they at least miss Plantation.

8/26/05 This time Hurricane Katrina was picking on us. - Our website server is located in Plantation, Florida which was hit by Hurricane Katrina yesterday. The hurricane took the power out for a few of hours, the battery backup system functioned and then ran out of power and the emergency generator failed to start, which put the website down for a few hours. In the midst of that that situation we uploaded a new database which wound up a bad upload. On top of power outage, it took us a while to realize that we had a bad database in addition to the power outage problem. That was the reason for the lack of data on our tables and lists. Sorry for the inconvenience.

8/15/05 The website experienced a hard drive failure and was offline for a number of hours. - The QuantumOnline website experienced a hard drive failure on our server and was offline for a number of hours between Monday morning and Monday afternoon. The website is now back online but could experience another outage when we switch from a shared server to a dedicated server in the near future. Hopefully, our new dedicated server will minimize outages such as this in the future.

4/16/05 We have added a screening option for Cumulative securities to the Screening Form. - We have added an option to screen for cumulative or non-cumulative preferreds to the screening form at the request of a QOL user.

2/25/05 We have added a Screening Form under the Income Tables menu. - We have added the long awaited screening or filtering form for our income securities under the Income Tables menu. This form will allow you to select from more than a dozen categories of data to build up your own customized table of income securities. The screening form allows the user to select a range of coupon rates, call dates beyond an input date or prior to an input date, whether to include or exclude tax advantaged dividends, etc., etc. The best way to introduce yourself to the screening form is to simply give it a try and play with various inputs until you see what it can and can't do. Remember that the resulting table can be sorted by any underlined column heading. Try it - you'll like it. And let us know any comments or suggestions you might have concerning the screening form or any problems you have with it. We do plan on incorporating any suggestions or improvements into the form as they are discovered so we expect the screening form to gradually evolve over the coming months.

2/03/05 We have added a list of Canadian Royalty Trusts under the Stock Lists menu. - We have split the previous list of royalty trusts into two separate lists of Canadian and U.S. royalty trusts. Richard Lehman of the Forbes/Lehman Income Securities Investor newsletter created a great deal of interest in Canadian royalty trusts when he mentioned in both his newsletter and in Forbes magazine that these securities are eligible for the 15% tax rate. We have also heard this from other sources so it is apparently true although we have not found any official confirmation of this eligibility. Therefore, we developed the separate list of Canadian royalty trusts for the convenience of QOL users who wish to research these high yielding income securities. 1/05/05 We have added a list of Income Deposit Securities under the Stock Lists menu. - We have added a list of Income Deposit Securities under the Stock Lists menu which can be found at the top of any page. Income Deposit Securities are a new type of income security that might be on interest to income investors. Currently, there are only three securities of this type on the market but more are expected to be issued in 2005. Income Deposit Securities are a hybrid security made up of a common stock and a high yield debt security. Both the common stock and the debt security pay dividends or interest which makes evaluating these securities a little more challanging. In addition, the IRS has yet to rule on exactly how these securities will be taxed.

1/04/05 We experienced two and possibly three website outages recently. - Today, Tuesday, the website was offline for an hour or two due to a BellSouth cable problem that took out a bank, our website host and a number of other businesses. On Sunday, 1/2/05 we experienced an outage between roughly 2:00 am and 11:00 am due to another database problem - similar but different from the one's be experienced previously. We also have had two users mention an outage on Monday morning. If the Monday morning outage occurred, we were unaware of it and it resolved itself. These outages are due to growth problems where the traffic on our website is exceeding our expectations. Solving the problems require us to ungrade the hardware and software we use and unfortunately that takes time. Rest assured that these outages are even more annoying to us than they are to QuantumOnline users and we will be working to eliminate any future problems. Sorry for the inconvenience.

11/26/04 We added a QOL Users Questions and Comments page. - We added a new QOL user questions and comments page with a link from our home page's right hand column. On this page we will include QOL user's questions and comments on income securities and our answers when the subject is considered to be general interest to QOL users.

10/29/04 We lost some user emails in during our problems with Service Pack 2. - Immediately following our problems with Service Pack 2 as described below we experienced a power outage that zapped one of our main computers despite being equipped with an uninterruptable power supply. As that was the computer that handles our emails among other things, we lost some user emails. If you did not receive an answer to an email that you sent between Monday and Wednesday or Thursday that is the reason. So if you still need an answer, please send your email again.

10/28/04 If you have not yet installed Windows XP Service Pack 2, we suggest that you don't. - We have had a user suggest that there is a problem between the QuantumOnline website and Windows XP Service Pack 2. If there is a problem with Service Pack 2 and the QuantumOnline website we am not aware of it and and would have no idea how to fix it.

However, there a plenty of problems with Service Pack 2 in general. We loaded Service Pack 2 via the Microsoft automatic update feature and experienced a variety of problems. After a few days of malfunctioning computers, including not being able to reach some websites, our internal LAN network no longer functioning, etc. we uninstalled Service Pack 2 (via the Control Panel's Add and Remove Programs function) and after a few days, a few hundred dollars in technician charges and after replacing most of the equipment in our internal LAN network, we now have our computers functioning again (reasonably well but we still have some problems).

Our suggestion is to not load Service Pack 2 if you haven't done so to date. If you have loaded Service Pack 2 and your computer continues to work properly, congratulations. If you have and it's causing problems, get rid of Service Pack 2. Then I hope you or someone you know can put your computers back in operating condition. In any event, good luck with Service Pack 2.

9/15/04 The QuantumOnline website is now operating with its new database system. - The QuantumOnline website is now operating on the Microsoft SQL Server Database system. We have fond hopes the new database will eliminate the outages we have been experiencing over the past few months. The current user traffic on the website had overwhelmed the Microsoft Access Database we had used since the inception of the website. The Microsoft SQL Server database is a high speed, high volume database which should be difficult for us to outgrow. You will probably notice a slight increase in speed in loading tables and lists as the SQL Server database is faster than MS Access but we really had no real complaints about Access's speed. We have some minor problems with the way the SQL Server - Cold Fusion combination is currently printing some percentage values for one thing (it is printing 5.83% as 5.8299999%, etc.) but will be working to clear up these items as we find them. If you do notice anything that needs correcting, please bring it to our attention.

9/5/04 The QuantumOnline website was offline due to Hurricane Frances. - The QuantumOnline website is hosted on a server in Plantation Florida which unfortunately was in the path of Hurricane Frances. The website went down at around 11:30am EDT Saturday when both the power to the website host and most importantly the telecommunications lines to the host went down. The host has emergency generators for electric power but can't do much when the telecommunications lines go out. The telecommunication lines came back online today at around 1:00pm EDT and the website went back online soon after that time. The website is currently operating on emergency power until the normal electric power is restored in that area. Hopefully the emergency generators will continue to function properly until normal power is restored to the area.

8/26/04 We are experiencing continuing problems with outages on the QuantumOnline website. - We are experiencing continuing problems with website outages recently and are well aware of the problem. Doing something to eliminate the problem is more difficult. We are currently working on a solution that we hope will temporarily eliminate the outages while we continue to work on the permanent solutions to the problem. We hope to implement the temporary solution in the very near future. The problem we are having is a substantial growth in traffic and usage of the QuantumOnline website. As a result we have outgrown the Microsoft Access database we have been using on the website and will have to convert to a new database system. In addition, the shared website server arrangement we have used to date is being overwhelmed and we will have to convert to a dedicated server arrangement for the website. To make these conversions will take some time (and a considerable expense) so we ask for your indulgence and patience while we make these conversions over the next few months. If you do receive a error message when you try to access the website, please just try again a little later. 7/16/04 A Quick Start page and an Income Investing Basics page has been added. - We have added a Quick Start to QuantumOnline page and an Income Investing Basics page. These pages are intended to assist new users of the QuantumOnline website to bring them up to speed quickly on how to use the QOL website and to provide a quick introduction to income investing. Existing users of the website who are not completely comfortable in using the website and or in selecting income investments could benefit by spending a little time reviewing these new pages.

7/3/04 A class action lawsuit has been filed involving the premature call of JZG. - A QOL user has informed us of the following: "There is a class action lawsuit filed about JZG (Verizon) that was recently liquidated. 6/24/04 A discussion of income investing risks has been added to the Information menu. - We have added a discussion of income investing risks that was written by Art LaPella, a long time QOL user and supporter and a knowledgeable income investor. The discussion goes into some detail as to the variety of investment risks an investor might encounter while investing in income investments. To see the investment risk discussion, go to the "Information" menu at the top of any page and click on the "Income Investing Risks" button.

4/27/04 An investment type column has been added to the REITs list. - We have added an investment type column to the Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) list. The investment types include a general description of the type of properties that the REIT invests in: apartments, multi-family housing, shopping centers, hotels, commercial, offices, industrial, manufactured home communities, mortgages, etc. This addition should allow the user to pick out REITs that invest in the type of properties that interest them at any given time. If you have any suggestions for better descriptions for the investment types of individual REITS, please email them to us.

4/08/04 We have re-categorized the closed-end funds into 19 categories. - We have re-categorized the closed-end funds into 19 categories that separate the income funds into more specific categories by the source of their income. In addition, we have upgraded the descriptions of 100+ funds, added the IPO date for most funds, and updated a variety of fund data.

4/02/04 We have added a Tour of QuantumOnline. - We have added a Tour of QuantumOnline especially to give newcomers to QuantumOnline (and also experienced users) a quick overall introduction to the QuantumOnline website. The tour will take users through the important features of the QuantumOnline website and provide a comprehensive introduction to QOL. The printed Tour pages will also provide a handy reference to the entire site when questions arise in the future as to where to find a particular item.

3/28/04 We have added two new IPO lists to the Special Lists menu. - We have divided the previous Income Security IPO List into two lists. The original list now only shows IPOs of preferred and income securities. The second list now shows the special investment products IPOs plus IPOs of Royalty Trusts, Master Limited Partnerships, and Business Development Companies. There are only a few IPOs of the last three categories so the list shows mainly the IPOs of special investment products. The third IPO list shows IPOs of Closed-End Funds (CEFs or Closed-End ETFs), Exchange-Traded Funds (Index ETFs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).

3/17/04 We have added table information, links and ratings to the individual security descriptions. - This new data has been added in table form directly beneath the Security Description on the individual security page and includes links to the stock exchange quotes and charts, a link to CBS MarketWatch for access to ex-dividend dates and the S&P and Moodys ratings for the individual security.

3/16/04 We have replaced the cumul column with a column showing the securities eligible for the 15% tax rate on all appropriate tables. - We have replaced the "Cumul" column on all appropriate tables with a column indicating which securities are eligible for the 15% tax rate. We felt that indicating the securities that were tax advantaged was of far greater interest to most users than indicating which security had cumulative dividends. The new column also makes it far easier for users to identify securities that should be marked as tax advantaged and are not, and vice versa. So if you identify mistakes in our tax advantaged coding, please let us know.

3/10/04 We have added CUSIP numbers and links to price quotes and charts to all appropriate lists. - We have added CUSIP numbers below the ticker symbols and links to price quotes and historical price charts on all appropriate lists including those under the Income Lists and Stock Lists menus at the top of any page. By clicking on the stock exchange designation (NYSE, etc.), you will go to the latest price quote on the appropriate stock exchange. By clicking on the "Chart" below the exchange, you will get a historical price chart from the same exchange.

3/09/2004 We have added the table of sublists of Closed-End Funds (CEF) directly on to the CEF table. - The Closed-End Fund table now includes the table of eleven sub lists of Closed-End Funds for the user that wishes to check over just a specific type of CEF fund such as preferred income funds, realty income funds, etc.

2/08/2004 We have added excerpts from the IRS's Instructions for Form 1099-DIV to the 15% Tax Rate of Dividends page. - The Instructions for Form 1099-DIV are the instructions for brokerage firms, etc. to complete the Form 1099-DIV which supposedly defines what dividends are eligible for the 15% tax rate. These excerpts provide the best information we have seen to date as to what dividends are eligible for the 15% rate. Unfortunately you will find that the rules provided in the instructions are rather difficult if not impossible to relate to questions you might have about the dividends paid by any individual security but they are the best we know of to date.

1/25/2004 The pages describing individual securities now specify the Security Type with a link. - The page describing an individual security now includes the security type (preferred stock, trust preferred, REIT, etc.) directly below the line providing the ticker symbol, CUSIP and exchange. By clicking on the security type you will go to the appropriate table or list for that security type. This information will allow the user to know how we have coded the particular security and facilitate finding the security on a particular table or list.

1/22/2004 The Income IPO list now shows the security type with a link. - The "IPOs of Preferred & Income Securities" list (see the "Special Lists" menu above) now shows the security type (i.e. Preferred Stock, Trust Preferred, etc.) with a link to the appropriate table that lists that type of security. By clicking on the "Sec. Type" link you will go directly to the appropriate table which lists all of that particular type of security.

11/27/2003 QuantumOnline's New Page Layout and Website Navigation System is now Online - The new QuantumOnline page layout and website navigation system went online on 11/27/2003. The most obvious features of the new website arrangement is a totally new appearance of the website pages and a website navigation system that features top and bottom menus. These menus provide access to every feature and function of the QuantumOnline website from the home page and from every other page of the site. As a consequence of the new menus, the Stock Lists page has been eliminated and all functions of that page has been replaced by the new menu systems and the information pages listed at the top of each menu. The Search page has been replaced by the Quick Search located in the upper left hand corner of each page.

Below is a summary of some of the new features of the updated QuantumOnline website.

• The Stock Lists page has been eliminated and replaced with a combination of the new top menus and the Table Descriptions, List Descriptions, and Information Page Descriptions located at the top of each menu.
• The Search page has been eliminated and replaced by the "Quick Search" which will be available on the upper left hand corner of every page.
• The Quick Search includes a new search by CUSIP number.
• The Quick Search's Symbol Lookup replaces the previous search by security name and will allow users to locate securities by inputting a distinctive word or two for the security (i.e. citigroup or merrill lynch).
• The tables and lists will now load in groups of 100 securities per page which will allow the tables and lists to load considerably faster than they have previously loaded. We also offer QOL users the choice of selecting to load the tables and lists in groups of 50, 100, or the complete table via the option box at the top of each table and list.
• The tables can now be sorted by clicking on the any underlined column heading of the table. The sorts should now be quite useful due to the faster loading of the tables as a consequence of faster loading of the data in pages of 100 securities.
• All tables and lists have the column headings repeated after each 25 items for ease of reference.
• The QuantumOnline will offer a news column on the home page to keep users up-to-date on the latest changes to the site as they occur. We now recommend that you bookmark the home page of our site. The new top and bottom menus will make all information on the site readily accessible from the home page and make the home page the logical entry point for the QuantumOnline website.
• QuantumOnline is now offering subscriptions to the Forbes/Lehmann Income Securities Investor newsletter (see below).
• Most of our information pages now offer a printer friendly page option (near the top of the page) for those users who would like to print the information pages to read offline or for future reference. To print the page, just click on the printer friendly link at the top of the page and then use your browser's print function to print the printer friendly page.
• All pages are now programmed in Cold Fusion (see the .cfm file extension) which allows us much greater flexibility in programming future features and additions to the website.

10/6/2003 A New Income Investments page - A new "Income Investments" page has been added to the QuantumOnline website. The Income Investments page provides QOL users with summary descriptions of all the categories of income securities and special products covered by the QuantumOnline website. These summaries should provide the QOL user with a good general understanding of the income security categories covered by the QuantumOnline website and their general investment characteristics. You will find this new Income Investments page on the Information menu.

10/6/2003 QOL's First Printer Friendly page - The new Income Investments page offers the first printer friendly page for QuantumOnline. By clicking on the link at the top of the Income Investments page the QOL user will go to a printer friendly version of the page that should print properly on most browsers and printers. When time permits, the other QOL information pages will have printer friendly versions added to the pages. Printer friendly pages have been an often repeated request by QOL users and we are now able to fulfill those requests.
